Inkwell!
from the mind of sidetrack on 6 September 2008
Hey folks,
Inkwell recently released an EP with Archipel Musique out of Montreal, entitled “Rain or Shine”. That is out on beatport and whatpeopleplay (among others). We are proud to announce this as we really like the archipel sound and the friendship of Pheek. Of course we want to support our very own inkwell in anyway, fwd.dj have just put them up as the featured artist, there is a full interview and a copy of their liveset from Soundwave this year. Check it out!
As for danksoul news, we are getting closer and closer to our first 12” release. It has been a long road of waiting, but soon! In Vancouver on Oct 25th we have just been booked to do a showcase for Signal Saturdays @ The Lotus Sound Lounge. This is going to be a really great night as we have always wanted to play the lotus. The night will feature Inkwell – ForaFee and Woodhead. Keep that one in mind, we are going to DESTROY that place!
Thats it for now,

Hello!
We have just put out our first release on Junodownload , it is “DSRD 001 – Danksoul – two”. In order to view any Danksoul releases on junodownload you can go to this link http://www.junodownload.com/labels/danksoul/ . So check out the new release and let us know what you think! It is available in mp3 versions and wav.
DSRD 001 – Danksoul- two
Floorboard – “Ale”
Bron – “Great White North”
Litewait – “2 Finger Shuffle”
Forafee feat Cameron Sound – “Cans”
We will update our discography section as soon as we can, but for now we have to focus on the upcoming Grand Opening of a new clubnight which we helped create called “Technicolor Fridays @ Century House”. We decided that Vancouver needs a regular Friday night spot where one can go and hear really good minimal/techno/house, generally amazing dance music in an intimate and classy setting. The idea is that the 4 Fridays per month are split between Danksoul and 3 other groups that we respect. Residents are as Follows:
Bron (Danksoul)
Dane Gretzky (Danksoul)
Aspect Unknown (Aspect Media, Wanted!)
Luke Summers (Summers Productions)
Jesse Bru (lowbrow, popkiller)
Miss Myte (lowbrow, popkiller)
SnailRider (Wanted!, Standardmethod)
Robin Bank$ (Wanted!)
We will be bringing special guests from across the globe, Dj’s and Live Acts. Here is a link to the facebook group, Technicolor Facebook Group . Hope to see all of you there, this friday May 9th is the First one Featuring : Kenzie Clarke, Forafee and Inkwell (live)!!!!!!!!!

We have a ton of bookings coming up for the rest of the summer, as well as many more releases planned. Stay tuned!

Summer is Coming..
from the mind of sidetrack on 5 April 2008
Hello,
Just a quick update for you, Danksoul is hard at work on polishing up tracks/artwork for our first few vinyl releases. We don’t have any specific dates as of right now, but I can say that we expect to have our first one out in the summer.
On another note Inkwell, Floorboard and Cinch will be releasing a number of tracks on Montreal based Label Archipel! Owned by none other than minimal legend Pheek . There will be a digital release containing tracks by all three of the groups. Expect to see it sometime in the beginning of summer.
There are a few shows coming up for our artists:
ForaFee @ Intox 5 – May 9th – Edmonton
Inkwell @ The Royal unicorn – April 18th – Vancouver
3LD @ Soundwave Renegade Stage – July 18-20 – Mussel Beach, BC.
We will upload flyers to our events section as soon as we have them.
And lastly, we will be releasing our newest digital EP in the next few days, it will contain tracks from Inkwell, ForaFee, Bron and Litewait. Expect it to be on Junodownload as well as itunes/emusic etc.
peace!

They are going to be amazing shows hopefully all the heads in these areas can make it down say hi! Take a look at the events page for more details and flyers.

cinch wishes he could go to both of these, but alas he will be in Vancity while the party goes down. Apparently, cinch loves writing about himself in the 3rd person.

from the mind of sidetrack on 14 November 2007
Hey,
Just wanted to update people on whats current with us here at the DSR.
Inkwell is going into overdrive mode so expect to see many new Inkwell tracks in the coming months. The entire Inkwell LivePA setup is also being rebuilt by yours truly to be a little snazzier, a little more focused and quite a bit smaller for travel purposes.
Danksoul is preparing a bunch of new releases that will be announced soon once the details have been hammered out. As for now there are new tracks in the Beatplayer.
Inkwell – Liason
Inkwell – This machine is just for you
cinch – salted cucumber slices.
Expect releases from:
Inkwell
Cinch
Pickls?
Blaine Fontaine
Kinsella
Floorboard
And a few new guys that are still in development. Some of these tracks will be released on another label, and we will inform you of which label that is once everything is concrete!
On top of this expect a whole bunch of new tour dates to be announced. At the time of this posting, Brisco and Kinsella are playing in Edmonton for the GOMP guys on the weekend of November 24th. There are a few other things in the planning stages for before the new year.. I will update as I find out.. rumour has it 3LD is back.
For the new year, Danksoul is showcasing at the Sunset Room in Victoria January 19th. January should be a busy month for us as we are working out vancouver/edmonton/calgary shows as well, 2008 is gonna be busy busy busy!

Only nerds will care...
from the mind of cinch on 8 November 2007
I’m going to do a LINK-O-RAMA today since I can’t think of anything “deep” or “meaningful” to blab about. hahaha…
Enjoy…
First off there’s this…
Sidetrack showed me this last night and I laugh every time I watch it.
+++
I’m really into programming these days (since the Glitch machine) so here’s a group of programmers with some amazing talent and imagination.
+++
Have you seen this bad boy yet??

DROOOL!
They had one at Tom Lee Music here in Vancouver and I was this close to slapping it on my credit card and dealing with the bill later.

Inkwell's Glitch Machine
from the mind of cinch on 12 October 2007
So I survived the mini-techno-festival that was last week. Trentmoller on Wednesday, Mathew Jonson on Friday, and then Inkwell + LowBrow + LWSD + Pheek + DJ Claire . Boy was I tired by Sunday. 2 out of 3 parties rocked. Trentmoller was the odd man out. But don’t get me started on that farce of a “Live” performance.
+++
Inkwell is undergoing some changes in the next month or so. I recently bought a Kaoss Pad 3 and we were originally going to use it in our set, but have since decided that the look and feel of the new machine doesn’t match well with the way we perform. O well, I guess it will just have to stay in my studio instead.
Ryan and I sat down the other day to redesign our so called glitch machine. We are going to build a dedicated controller to replace my novation zero sl. If you’ve got no clue what a glitch machine is I’ll try to enlighten you…

Glitch Machine: An 8 step sequencer containing 9 sounds within each step which are selectable with a fader. The sequencer runs from left to right triggering the current sound selected with the fader. Each step has these parameters: ON/OFF, Skip, Decay, and Pitch. Let me describe each parameter in more detail…
ON/OFF – Does what it says; turns the step on or off.
Skip – When enabled the sequencer will Skip over the current step, thus creating a 7 step (or less) sequence. Very useful for polyrhythmic phrases.
Decay – Sets the time length of the sound contained within the step.
Pitch – Sets the pitch of the sound contained within the step.
The machine has a master section which contains the sequence speed (1/4, 1/8, 1/16, 1/32) a master decay. We’re are going to couple Ableton’s swing parameter to the swing of the glitch machine so they’re neatly locked.
This machine has so many uses, you can write simple melodies, beats, or sound exactly like the records that come out on Perlon. hahaha.

What goes thump in the night?
from the mind of cinch on 1 October 2007
Whud up my peoples,
Big news!
I performed my first cinch set a couple days ago at a friends house party in Surrey. It went swimmingly. My setup consists of my 4 year old PC laptop running Fruityloops 4 (hells yeah), my novation remote zero sl, and my new Kaoss Pad 3. The beauty of the whole thing is that I can perform most of my set with the laptop screen closed. Hooray for proper Live Performance Art!! I intended to play and hour set at the party but ended up playing for about 3 hours in total. I was absolutely exhausted by the end of it. The other performers at the party were playing slammin’ electro and psy-trance (ug) so I wanted to play the electronic opposite, ie, stripped down underwater/subterranean minimal chuggers. My kick drum consisted soley of an 808 thump, while my hi-hat couldn’t have been much longer than 4 ms (haha not really). In other words, she was micro. Imagine the dream you had this morning and then send it on a fission powered rocket ship to Jupiter’s third moon and back; the dream is now the sound of my hi-hat.
Anyways, I feel like I got people talking and smiling, which was my goal. There was also a bit of dancing thrown in there just to spice things up. All of the other DJ’s were playing so loud that I felt like the party needed to chill a bit. It seemed to work out well.
If you’d like cinch to play at your house party (in the greater vancouver area), email him at cincher(at)gmail.com

This coming week is full of crazy parties in Vancouver. We’ve got Trentemoller, Mathew Jonson, Pheek, and Tuoane, paying us a visit. I’m going to try to see everyone, I fear my legs won’t cooperate. Oh did I mention that…
INKWELL is opening for Pheek THIS SATURDAY NIGHT!!!

I know I’m pounding this show into your noggins and have no remorse.
+++
Oh by the way, If you haven’t noticed we’ve got comments on all of the blog posts now so you can feel free to call me a wanker if need be.
